Did you know that New Jersey has the fifth highest incidence rate of cancer in the country? Screenings can detect cancers at an early stage where treatment is more effective.

ScreenNJ is taking its LifeSaver Mobile Health Unit bus to East Brunswick Public Library (2 Civic Center Drive) on Monday, October 9 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to offer preventive cancer screenings in the library’s parking lot.

ScreenNJ is a partnership of Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the New Jersey Department of Health, and healthcare and community organizations aiming to increase screening for breast, cervical, colorectal, genetically-linked, HPV-linked, lung, prostate, and skin cancers to reduce cancer mortality rates, to reduce disparities, and to educate New Jersey residents about the importance of cancer screening, early detection, and prevention.

On the Mobile Health Unit, participants are provided with health services to help prevent and detect cancer, including checking one’s risk for lung, breast, and family history (genetic services), as well as providing HPV-cervical, colorectal and prostate screenings. If participants need follow-up care, they will be referred to their local provider and healthcare facilities for further evaluation.

Medical insurance is not required. Cancer screenings are provided to those who fall within the screening guidelines. There are no costs for preventative screening services offered on the mobile health unit.
